How to Choose A Good Quality Champagne

You can always find clues to help you choose a top quality champagnes if you know what to look for and in this series of videos you’ll discover some of things that can really make a difference.

Gimonnet & Fils Champagne

Did you know that there are roughly 5,000 champagne makers?

4,722 to be precise, according to the official statistics.

If you didn’t know that, don’t worry. Most people don’t either and I dare say that you’ve never heard of 95% of them let alone tasted them.

With so many champagnes to choose from it’s hard to select just one or two to try for the first time.

That’s why so many people just go for the familiar option which is one of the well-known international brands.

In my view though, this is a real shame because amongst these the undiscovered champagnes are some absolute gems that will really blow your socks off in terms of quality, variety and Yes often in terms of price as well.

But that still doesn’t help you when it comes to choosing. Fortunately as I always say...

Quality Leaves Clues

What do I mean by that?

Well, good products, no matter what they are: cars, clothes, restaurants whatever, don’t just happen. They are the result of skill, care, dedication and experience and invariably there is something that the producer does that very few others have the courage or vision to put into practice.

Two people who do though are Didier and Olivier Gimonnet of Champagne Pierre Gimonnet & Fils and in this series of videos Didier Gimonnet will explain to you exactly what it is that he and his brother do to make their champagnes stand out from the crowd.

In the first video Didier will tell you how they store their reserve wines to give them the extra maturity and depth that really make a difference in their champagnes.

In subsequent videos over the next few weeks, you’ll learn what makes the Gimonnet vineyards special, how Gimonnet go about making their zero dosage champagne called Cuvée Oenophile and in the last video Didier will tell you about his outstanding range of vintage champagnes.

But let’s start by meeting Didier in this short introductory video filmed in the Gimonnet family home.
